A team from the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) has started off on an expedition to climb the mount Mumba peak which no expedition has scaled till date. Mount Mumba is a peak in the Gangotri area of Uttarkashi district.
This 5236 metre high peak has not been scaled by any expedition so far. The Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), New Delhi has also confirmed this, stating that there is very little information about this mountain and that no team has scaled this peak so far.It has also been learnt from some sources that the endangered and elusive snow leopard is also found in this area. Hence, the NIM team will also attempt to gather information about the presence of the snow leopard during its expedition.The NIM principal, colonel Amit Bisht is heading the expedition.
The expedition team consists of institute instructors Deep Shahi, hawaldar Anil Kumar and NIM trainees Deveshwari Bisht and Navmi. The team members sought divine blessings before setting off on the expedition on Sunday.
It is pertinent to mention here that during the previous year, the NIM principal colonel Bisht had climbed four unnamed and unscaled peaks in the Gangotri area.
